OUR WORK:

Currently we are working in 4 states in India: Delhi, UP, Bihar and Manipur. We have already helped more than 400 street children across these states to attend school. Previously they were begging in the streets and searching for food among garbage tips.

* Opened 15 after-school programs to provide free education, computer training and food.
* Distributed stationary books, dictionaries and clothes.
* Provided free health check ups once a month for the children.
* Helped women to know their rights to put an end to exploitation.
* Helped older people to live a better quality of life.

Based on our experience, BCF believes that sustainable development of disadvantaged communities can be achieved only if children’s best interests are at the heart of everything we do and if children themselves actively participate in the process. Child-centred community development is the term we use to describe how we aim to do our development work. It's a rights based approach to development where we support communities to develop the structures and skills they need to provide a safe and healthy environment in which children are able to realise their full potential.

OUR APPORACH:

With increased focus on children's rights, we involve children as active participants in the development process. In the past our community development programs benefited children, but we worked largely with the adult community members. Now, with increased focus on children’s rights, we involve children as active participants in the development process. As a result of the success of these changes, BCF has adopted Child Centred Community Development as its program approach. This integrates the more recently developed methods of working with children and our long experience of community development.
